Encounters on the Persimmon Sea

A d20 table I wrote on my lunch break when I thought my Into The Odd game was going to happen that night (it didn't) Mists get thicker - 1d4 mist wraiths appear School of Fish - The sea is now fish Sky Darkens - Wis save or hide Elfs lost at sea - They try to wave the party down. They just want to rob them Siren - Beautiful person stuck on a rock. The rock is a shark and the person is a lure Wholly squid fight - Light wholly mammoths, but squid. They're fighting Rains of Fruit - Bountiful amounts of fruit rain down Small island with crab shells - A spot where a giant bird drops crabs to eat them (idea from Deep Carbon Observatory) Skeleton ghost ship - A pirate ship that was once alive, now it's bones. School of Jelly Fish - Playful jellyfish ask the party to goof around Gnome in a tree - Pretty much what you think it is Electric Eel Storm - Bolts of electric eels fire down Opera of Puffer Fish - Multiple puffer fish are performing a dramatic opera Swordfish ...

Cosmic Horror Fantasy

How would one run a 5e game in a shore-side hamlet, constantly overcast, at the edge of sanity? What would the classes be? How hard should one lean on the established Lovecraftian tropes? Insanity Paladins - that wouldn't realistically work in a world now would it? Wizards that pull beasties from the cosmos - so, cultists, and now you're an enemy? Here's a stab at how one could do this - Artificer - Tinkerer of sorts. Please don't say "steampunk". Adding "punk" doesn't make something interesting. Barbarian - Logger / Carpenter type with a chip on their shoulder. Rages against tragedy. Bard - Minstrel. Bring some brevity to the sad reality of things. Cleric - Thinking the abominations are that of the devil, they fight against it. Druid - Embrace the other side of nature or fight against it? Fighter - Town guard. Monk - Brawler that drinks too much to keep the shakes away. Paladin - See Cleric, but with a sword and shield. Ranger - Boy scout of sor...

The Kingdom of Mah

My partner shared a brief video with me today of a toddler bopping up and down to the tune of some Beyonce song. Said toddler had a silly face and was holding a corndog. My response to this was, "Babies are stupid". Here we have "The Kingdom of Mah" - A small kingdom inhabited solely by infants. The adult intelligence of these citizens tops at a traditional 3 year old. Given this limitation: the economy, entertainment, and government reflects as so - Economy - Mostly tourism as foreigners enjoy gawking at how cute the citizens behave and get by. Entertainment - The bourgeoisie flock to late night puppet shows while the lower class attend the bubble huts: small establishments where one can pay to blow bubbles in soapy tubs. Government - The biggest / toughest female is seen as the ruler. Not only the queen, but cleric to the god Mah - The Mother.
