Cosmic Horror Fantasy
How would one run a 5e game in a shore-side hamlet, constantly overcast, at the edge of sanity? What would the classes be? How hard should one lean on the established Lovecraftian tropes? Insanity Paladins - that wouldn't realistically work in a world now would it? Wizards that pull beasties from the cosmos - so, cultists, and now you're an enemy?
Here's a stab at how one could do this -
Artificer - Tinkerer of sorts. Please don't say "steampunk". Adding "punk" doesn't make something interesting.
Barbarian - Logger / Carpenter type with a chip on their shoulder. Rages against tragedy.
Bard - Minstrel. Bring some brevity to the sad reality of things.
Cleric - Thinking the abominations are that of the devil, they fight against it.
Druid - Embrace the other side of nature or fight against it?
Fighter - Town guard.
Monk - Brawler that drinks too much to keep the shakes away.
Paladin - See Cleric, but with a sword and shield.
Ranger - Boy scout of sorts. Knows the best trade routes.
Rogue - Pickpocket. Knows all the rumors.
Sorcerer - Bloodline that has seen these horrors for generations.
Warlock - Who is that patron deity of yours? What does it whisper to you at night?
Wizard - Academic type.
