How would one run a 5e game in a shore-side hamlet, constantly overcast, at the edge of sanity? What would the classes be? How hard should one lean on the established Lovecraftian tropes? Insanity Paladins - that wouldn't realistically work in a world now would it? Wizards that pull beasties from the cosmos - so, cultists, and now you're an enemy? Here's a stab at how one could do this - Artificer - Tinkerer of sorts. Please don't say "steampunk". Adding "punk" doesn't make something interesting. Barbarian - Logger / Carpenter type with a chip on their shoulder. Rages against tragedy. Bard - Minstrel. Bring some brevity to the sad reality of things. Cleric - Thinking the abominations are that of the devil, they fight against it. Druid - Embrace the other side of nature or fight against it? Fighter - Town guard. Monk - Brawler that drinks too much to keep the shakes away. Paladin - See Cleric, but with a sword and shield. Ranger - Boy scout of sor...
